October is Health Literacy Month, and what better way to celebrate health literacy than to celebrate health and wellness.
What started as a fun challenge among a few staff 3 years ago has become a highly anticipated activity with participants across the nation! Our thoughts of canceling our 2020 challenge due to the pandemic were met with pushback — internally and externally!
So, because you asked, and because it’s Health Literacy Month, and because we’re big fans of walking our way to wellness, we’re bringing HLM Healthy Steps back, and making it even better than before! Plus, walking 30 minutes several times a week can boost your immune system, improve your mood, and increase productivity! Any of you need more of that in your life right now during this pandemic? We’re raising our hands over here, too!
We’d love it if you’d walk with us this month (metaphorically, of course)! Your welcome guide will give you tips on how to move more while staying healthy and safe during a pandemic. Weekly Newsletters will give you motivation to keep moving, tips to increase your step count, and give you access to the HLM Healthy Steps dashboards to see your individual and group progress, and show the top 10 walkers!

Even though we can’t walk together in person, it’s more important than ever to find ways to connect and stay healthy. The annual walking challenge brings attention to Health Literacy Month and is one easy way to support individual and community physical and mental health!
Here’s what you need to know about HLM Healthy Steps 2020:
What are the dates of the challenge? Monday, October 5th – Monday, November 9th
Who can join the challenge? You! And us. And… everyone!
Where will the challenge take place? Wherever you live, work, and play.
How does the challenge work?
Each day, you track your steps on a tracking device, such as a FitBit, Apple Watch, smartphone, or pedometer.
Each week, we send you an online Google form for you to submit your steps, then we’ll update your total step count, and share the top 10 walkers in our weekly newsletter.
At the end of the month, we'll tally up all the steps, and if you're in the top 3, you win a prize.
